To bring a little happiness to our Sav fans, we have a 6 bottle case of three Sauvignon Blancs. This mixed case highlights the great wines that NZ can produce with this grape variety! Each case contains two bottles of the Wyebrook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and two bottles of Wairau Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 plus 2 bottle of a 'Mystery' GOLD MEDAL winning Sauvignon Blanc from 2010.
The Wyebrook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was awarded 3.5 Stars from TiZwine.com who wrote 18 months ago:
"Zingy. The spicy and floral aromas lead to big, weighty tropical fruit flavours with a grassy undercurrent. The acidity is very lively making the wine a touch angular at present BUT we are sure that this will soften and this is a wine of real potential."
It has indeed softened over time, and is lovely drinking now.
This Wairau Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 won a Silver Medal - 2011 New Zealand International Wine Show, and in the Sydney Top 100 ras rated Highly Commended. The wine is lively and pungent, with aromas of gooseberry, hawthorn and citrus. It shows crisp acidity and has a fresh lingering finish. The wine is drinking extremely well at the moment. The company is certainly in good hands as at the head of the team are famous NZ winemaker Alan McCorkindale with Chris and Judi Simmonds who were foundation growers for Cloudy Bay.
The 'Mystery' Gold Medal winning 2010 Hawke's Bay Sauvignon Blanc is from a famous wine producer in New Zealand. However it must remain a secret as to what exact wine this is until the bottles arrive on your doorstep (they are fully labelled, so the mystery will indeed be revealed!). his is what we can tell you: This wine is from a top Hawkes Bay Winery, it is a 2010 vintage, and it won a Gold Medal at the leading Australian overseas wine competition in 2011.
So, we have a two award winning wines in the pack, one a Gold medal winner. Two are from Marlborough and one from the Hawkes bay - the best 2 Sauvignon Blanc regions in the country.
