If you're a fan of great value red wines, then you'll be getting a nice warm glow on about now, as we are offering three of our favourites warming reds for just $11 per bottle! Sure, winter is all but over - but you just know there'll be a Spring cold snap coming.
The Maximus Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 comes from Mahurangi River Winery, and is produced from hand-picked estate grown Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. It is then fermented in open top vats using wild yeast. The wine is then carefully aged in french oak barriques. The Estate's owners devote their energies to producing top quality wines from ‘Terroir to Table’. Match this Bordeaux style blend with roast lamb as the wine’s fruit flavours will enhance the texture and flavour of the meat and contrast well with the saltiness of the gravy.
Today we have the Totem Nelson Pinot Noir 2008 from sunny Nelson. A lovely ruby hue with ripe black stone fruit on the nose, savoury characters and a touch of barbeque smoke. A smooth entrance of black plums, a hint of liquorice and fine grained tannins.
The Herald Cove Waiheke Island Malbec 2003 is produced entirely from hand picked Malbec Grapes grown on Waiheke Island. A deeply coloured, well balanced & medium bodied wine filled with gamey and earthy flavours. Matured in oak for 10 months. The vineyard was a small enterprise of 5 Hectacres located on the prime grape growing area of Waiheke Island. This idyllic coastal site near Auckland was a climate perfect for growing red wine grapes. Their aim was to produce low volume wines of top quality.
