
Pinot Noir is the most popular red wine in New Zealand so we have decided to introduce to you three beauties from one of New Zealand's premier Pinot Noir districts, Central Otago. Included are two bottles of Herald Cove Central Otago Pinot Noir 2008, two bottles of Perseverance Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009, and two bottles of Gibbston Highgate Soultaker Pinot Noir 2010.
This vintage of Perseverance Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009 has aromas of violets, dried fruits and cherry, The palate has sweet plum, white pepper and spice with full mouth feel, fine tannin structure and a long warm finish. Enjoy now or cellar for two to three more years.
The Herald Cove Central Otago Pinot Noir 2008 is a rich, deep flavoured red wine showing aromas of dark berry fruits, cherries and spice, layers of flavour, and a long lingering finish. Sam Kim awarded it 4 stars - in fact it was just 1 mark off 4.5 stars. He describes it as "A charming Pinot with soothing flavours, the bouquet shows fragrant aromas of red/black cherry and floral with hints of savoury mushroom and spice notes. It's ripe and silky on the palate with lovely fruit intensity and a lingering supple finish. It's effortless drinking. At its best: now to 2013."
The Gibbston Highgate Soultaker Pinot Noir 2010 is dense and deep ruby, with crimson hues. Brooding fruit aromas with bright red cherry, mingled with dark cherries and plums, savory and forest floor undertones, some floral and rose petal scents. The palate is silky with fine grained oak tannins, a touch of spice, slowly unwinding and lingering it brings up rich fruit, chocolate notes and elements of whole bunch ferment. This wine comes from a long line of award winners, including the 2006 vintage which won numerous gold and silver medals.
