Description
Pinot Gris grapes are the white equivalent of Pinot Noir. The wine made from them is Italy's most popular variety (known over there as Pinot Grigio) and is drunk internationally. On offer to you today are three of New Zealand's finest examples of Pinot Gris, at a fantastic 50% off RRP!
The Black Birch Pinot Gris 2010 is ripe and juicy Pinot Gris from well known ZeroCarbon Marlborough winery Grove Mill. This is a very giving wine overflowing with classic premium Pinot Gris characters of pear and almost Earl Grey tea! Rich, and juicy with hints of sweetness.
The Alexia by Jane Cooper Pinot Gris 2011 palate displays aromas of pear, nectarine and toasted almonds leading to a lingering dry finish. This wine is best enjoyed in its youth but will further develop over the next 4 years. Jane Cooper has made wines in Australia, Chile and Italy as well as New Zealand. It is the Wairarapa that she calls home and this Pinot Gris is a winner vintage after vintage. Its just been released and we love it. The 2010 got 4 stars from Michael Cooper.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit says of the Frog Haven Marlborough Pinot Gris 2011: "Very appealing on the nose displaying ripe peach, floral, pineapple and a hint of spice characters. The palate is juicy and generous with lovely fruit intensity and a touch of sweetness, which is well balanced by the bright acidity. A beautifully expressed Pinot Gris with lots of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2014 - 4.5 Stars"
