With Winter still lingering, perhaps you're looking for white wines with a little more depth and weight than your standard light Summer Sippers? If so you'll love this mixed Chardonnay Selection, three different wines from different regions in a 6-bottle case at only $10 per bottle.
The Mahurangi River Field of Grace Chardonnay 2007 is rich gold with green tints, an exuberant Chardonnay with plenty of complex fruit and oak driven characters. There are classic pineapple, peach, vanilla and guava characters on the nose as well as the subtle lees/mealy notes and, of course, the expressive toasty aromas from the French oak used. The palate has a muscular, smooth character with similar flavours on the nose, although I detect some figs and toasted nuts coming through. Altogether a bold but elegant wine that is held in check by a fine acidity.
Hawke's Bay delivers ripe Chardonnay in great condition year after year. The Roy's Hill Chardonnay 2001 was given a cool, controlled ferment in stainless steel to maximize aroma and flavour. A lively, fruit-driven Chardonnay. Crisp citrus and green apple flavours softened with fresh pineapple. This wine is drinking well now. Roy's Hill is named after a local landmark overlooking the acclaimed C.J Pask vineyards.
Reserve is the title given only to the top quality wines at Twilight. This medal-winning premium Twilight Reserve Chardonnay 2008 was made from top quality handpicked Clevedon grapes. The wine was fermented and aged in traditional French oak barrels for 8 months with regular lees stirring. The nose exudes an array of tropical fruit and fresh dough aromas. The palate displays typical fruitiness with hints of gentle spices, a smooth, rich and creamy mouth feel, followed by a lengthy vanilla oak finish.
