We have something very special for Pinot Noir lovers today. A Silver Medal returned US export order. The Explorer Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009 goes under a different label (we can't tell you which but you might be able to work it out!) in New Zealand, and retails for $43 per bottle. Today we have it at WELL under half-price at just $18.50 per bottle! If you are always on the look out for something unique, exclusive and original - then this is the wine for you!
Here's a story to share with your next dinner guests - this wine is made by a well known Central Otago winery, and was labelled for export to the US under their Explorer label, but when it got to the USA, it was discovered to have the NZ back label on. The NZ label doesn't comply with US regulations. So back it all came to NZ. And that's how it got to be in your hot little hands at 56% off the RRP!
Under the NZ label it was a Decanter Wine Awards 2012 Silver Medal Winner! And got 18/20 (4 stars) from Raymond Chan.
Medium-full bodied, our 2009 has concentrated and full flavours of ripe dark berry fruits, spiced plums and an iron-earth core providing drive through the palate. The flavours unfold and develop complexing layers in the glass. The fruit sweetness and supple, plump tannins provide a harmonious, soft-grained texture and a rounded density to the wine. Earth, spice and liquorice notes feature on a sustained finish.
If you are after quality and a delicious Pinot Noir to warm up these cool Spring evenings and provide some entertainment at your next dinner party then you will not want to pass up the Explorer Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009!
